* Sagesse v/s
Al-Wehda: (86-105)
For those in
Lebanon who were hoping that Sagesse take their revenge
for their loss to Al Wahda in Dubai, they would have to
take a rain check, as Head Coach Ghassan Sarkis opted to
play his bench. He told them to play without pressure and
whether win or lose, they would have another chance to
make it to the semi finals and the final. Like Sunday, he
used six players only and they did well despite a 19-point
loss, 105-86.
Although surprised by the lineup, Al Wahda opened the game
with six consecutive points but Sagesse came back and took
a 10-point edge with their three-pointers and fast breaks
but Wahda reduced the gap to two points at the end at the
first quarter, 27-25. Sagesse grabbed five offensive and
10 defensive rebounds and Badr Makki gave 4 assists.
With the element of surprise gone, Wahda took control and
started to increase the gap thanks to successive
three-pointers from their import players, Andre Pitts and
the Yugoslav player. Wahda went to the break with an
11-point edge, 57-46, but Marwan Hajj had 11 points and 8
rebounds. Ali Chamsine and Badr Makki had three
three-pointers each.
In the third quarter, Hajj continued his strong
performance under the basket and Bassem Balaa was strong
in rebounds, penetration and scoring from lay-ups and
mid-distance. Sagesse scored 17 points to Wahda’s 26.
In the final quarter, Sagesse scored 23 points and Wahda
22. Both teams upped their tempo and the game became
pretty much open. However, Sagesse continued to grab more
rebounds and ended the game with 52 rebounds and 19
assists. Hajj had 21 points and 17 rebounds and Balaa had
as much points and 10 boards. Barhoum had 14 points and 7
assists while Makki has as much points, 9 assists and 7
rebounds. Chamsine had 15 points from 5-of-7
three-pointers, 4 block shots and 7 rebounds.
